Chicago Magazine's 2006 Top Doctors Issue...and the Cover Feature!

(January 9, 2006 - Chicago) - You may have seen one of the Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush (MOR) physicians peering out at you from the magazine rack at your local grocery or convenience store. Brian Cole, MD, Sports Medicine physician with MOR, was selected for the cover of the January 2006 Chicago Magazine "Top Doctors" issue. "It was a great honor being selected and put on the cover. While it has been a lot of fun, it can be a bit unnerving to see yourself staring back from a magazine rack in the grocery store," stated Dr.Cole.

Dr. Cole was also profiled in the magazine. This profile focused on his ground-breaking research and work in cartilage transplantation and arthroscopy of the shoulder, elbow and knee (visit Dr. Cole's Web site www.cartilagedoc.org for more information), as well as his role as the head team physician to the Chicago Bulls and team physician for the Chicago White Sox.

Other MOR physicians also made the grade, which was no surprise as each of the physicians named had been included as a top doctor multiple times in the past. "Being an academically affiliated practice, we have physicians that subspecialize in specific areas of orthopaedics, which gives them a certain amount of notoriety in their field. In addition, our physicians are heavily involved with RUSH University Medical Center's (RUSH) fellowship programs in three of the subspecialties. This also provides a certain degree of name recognition as well. I think these are some of the main reasons for the practice's success in the Top Doctor rankings," said Gunnar Andersson, MD, PhD, MOR member and the long-time Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at RUSH.

Other MOR physicians mentioned as top doctors include:

Bernard R. Bach, Jr., MD - Director of the RUSH sports medicine program, President of the Herodicus Sports Medicine Society, President Elect, American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine, and recipient of the Claude Lambert-Susan Thompson Endowed Chair in Orthopedics. Dr. Bach has been selected five consecutive times as a "Top Doctor" for his work in sports medicine.

Mark S. Cohen, MD - This hand and elbow surgeon is another repeat "Top Doctor," having received this honor for the fourth time. Dr. Cohen has been the Director of the Orthopaedic Hand and Elbow Section at RUSH since 1993, and he currently serves as the Director of Orthopaedic Education in the department. He has won several research, teaching and achievement awards and is a member of 16 national and international medical societies and associations.

Jorge O. Galante, MD - A founding member of MOR and a worldwide pioneer in joint replacement. For more than four decades, Dr. Galante has earned worldwide recognition, including many national and international awards for his research and clinical contributions in the field of total hip and total knee replacement. Dr. Galante has also received multiple "Top Doctor" awards.
