Jeffrey M. Mjaanes, M.D.
Sports Medicine; Pediatric Sports Medicine
A medical graduate from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, Madison, WI, Dr. Mjaanes completed his residency in pediatrics at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center. During his residency, he was awarded the Aesculapius Award for his work in resident teaching and patient care. Combining his interests in pediatrics and sports medicine, Dr. Mjaanes went on to complete a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Dr. Mjaanes is dedicated to caring for local young athletes. As part of his sports medicine practice, Dr. Mjaanes serves as Head Team Physician for North Lawndale College Prep School (2006-07 IHSA Class A Boys' Basketball, Second Place) and Simeon Career Academy (2006-07 IHSA Class AA Boys' Basketball, State Champs!) as well as consulting team physician for New Trier Township High School (Wilmette) and Al Raby High School in Chicago. He also serves as Head Team Physician for Trinity International University and is Medical Director of their Athletic Training Program. A soccer enthusiast, Dr. Mjaanes is one of the team physicians for US Soccer and has traveled abroad with the national teams.
As an assistant professor in the departments of Pediatrics and Orthopaedic Surgery at Rush University, Dr. Mjaanes takes an active role in educating future physicians and advancing research in sports medicine. He has presented at numerous sports medicine conferences, both national and international. He currently serves as co-chair of the Sports Medicine and Fitness Committee of the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Mjaanes is also one of the three primary faculty in our Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship program at Rush. Through his affiliation with Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, Dr. Mjaanes looks to advance his research in pediatric sports medicine including studies on anterior knee pain in children, weight training in adolescents, and throwing injuries in young athletes. Dr. Mjaanes is fluent in Spanish and conversational in French and Portuguese.
