The American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM) presents nine prestigious awards annually to those demonstrating excellence in research and contribution to the field of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. The awards recognize and encourage cutting-edge research among physicians in the field.
On July 10, 2011, at the AOSSM Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA, Dr. Shane Jay Nho, Dr. Charles Bush Joseph and Dr. Walter Virkus were presented with the 2011 Aircast Award for Basic Science for their paper, "Effect of Acetabulum Rim Recession on Anterior Rim Angle: A Cadaveric Study." The physicians of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush co-authored the paper with physicians from Rush University Medical Center, as well as from Boston Medical College and Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic in Raleigh, NC.
