(Chicago, IL) - Orthopaedic Oncology Specialist Dr. Steven Gitelis was named 2011 President Elect of the Rush University Medical Center Medical Staff. On July 1, 2011, Dr. Gitelis will take the position of President Elect for a two-year term, followed by his Presidency for two years, after which he assumes the position of Past President for an additional two years.
As President Elect, Dr. Gitelis will serve as Chairman of the Rush Credentialing Committee and the Bylaws Committee as well as serve as member of the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee is composed of 19 voting members, composed of the Medical Staff President, President Elect, Past President, Treasurer, Secretary and 14 members elected annually by the Rush medical staff. The committee, which is headed by the Medical Staff President, addresses medical staff issues including credentialing and discipline. As President, Dr. Gitelis will oversee all Rush University Medical Center physicians and physician extenders, as well as serve on the Rush Board of Trustees.
Dr. Gitelis joins Dr. Catherine Dimou, President, and Dr. Robert DeCresce, Past President. "I was honored to be selected by my peers to such a prestigious position. It is a role that comes with much responsibility, but I look forward to what the next six years will bring," Dr. Gitelis commented.
