Dr. Krystian Bigosinski Provides Tips for Basketball Injury Prevention
As basketball season begins, coaches and athletes all hope for an injury free season. Dr. Krystian Bigosinski, sports medicine specialist at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush was recently featured on Comcast SportsNet discussing the steps athletes should take to prevent common injuries. Dr. Bigosinski has experience working with high performance athletes as a team physician for the Chicago White Sox and the DePaul University Blue Demons. He mentioned that players today are bigger, faster and stronger, and while not considered a contact sport, basketball can be very physical.
Dr. Bigosinski explains that proper stretching and warm ups are essential in injury prevention, and that professional players from the Bulls and the White Sox organizations devote a full hour to stretching. He encourages coaches to use this as an example to get their athletes to buy into the importance of stretching.
