Dr. Virkus, Dr. Gitelis Discuss Treatment of Bone Tumors Stemming from Metastatic Breast Cancer

Midwest Orthopaedic at Rush Orthopaedic Oncologists Dr. Walter Virkus and Dr. Steven Gitelis were featured experts in Chicago Tribune and ABC7 News reports explaining how metastatic breast cancer can spread to the bone and treatment options currently available.

"I've been doing bone cancer work for 30 years. I've seen woman with metastatic breast cancer living with it more than 20 years," said Dr. Gitelis. "When breast cancer spreads to the bone, it can weaken the tissue, even to the point of causing the bone to break," said Dr. Walter Virkus.

Dr. Gitelis appeared as a featured expert in an ABC7 news report on how women respond to treatment for bone cancer stemming from metastatic breast cancer. Dr. Virkus was quoted in a Chicago Tribune article that reviewed treatment options for this type of bone cancer.
