THE CHICAGO SPORTS CONCUSSION CLINIC AT RUSH
The mission of the Chicago Sports Concussion Clinic at Rush is to provide child, teen and adult athletes with evaluation, treatment and medical clearance for sports-related concussions. The focus is on proper diagnosis of a concussion, including medical evaluation and neuropsychological testing, and the aim is to provide treatment, direct neurocognitive therapy and determine when it is safe to return to sports. The clinic will also increase awareness of significance of concussions amongst athletes, parents, coaches and athletic trainers, and advance understanding of concussion diagnosis and management amongst health care professionals, such as emergency room physicians, family physicians and pediatricians.
The clinic is under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey Mjaanes from Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush. Dr. Mjaanes is a primary care sports medicine physician-board certified in pediatrics and CAQ certified in sports medicine. He is team physician for North Lawndale Prep, Simeon Career Academy High School, Trinity International University and one of the team physicians for DePaul University. Dr. Mjaanes is also one of the team physicians for US Soccer.

The medical team of the Chicago Sports Concussion Clinic at Rush consists of sports medicine physicians, neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, as well as physical, occupational and behavioral therapists who are experienced in concussion. The clinic uses a team-centered, multi-disciplinary approach to manage patients from mild to the most complex cases. The clinic employs the latest in concussion diagnosis and management tools, including ImPACT, neurocognitive testing and vestibular testing. The overall goal is to get the athletes back to their sport in the timeliest but safest manner.
