The Physicians of MOR Explain the Common Football Injury
When the Bears star Running Back Matt Forte left Sunday's game after a hard hit to the knee, many Bears fans were left wondering, what is an MCL sprain? The Sports Medicine experts of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush explain what the diagnosis of a MCL sprain means.
Forte's injury occurred in the first quarter of Sunday's game and according to league sources he suffered a Grade II MCL knee sprain. Dr. Shane Nho, Sports Medicine Specialist at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush was featured on Comcast SportsNet to describe Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL sprains).
Dr. Nho explained that there are variations of MCL sprains categorized into three grades. Grade I is when there is microscopic tearing of the ligament, Grade II occurs when 50-60 percent of the tissue is torn and the ligament is elongated and Grade III is when all fibers are ruptured and the ligament is completely disconnected.
