Pitching Rotation
Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush shoulder expert Dr. Anthony Romeo was featured on Comcast SportsNet, Chicago Tribune Live to discuss the rare injury that benched White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy last season. Dr. Romeo explained that Peavy's latissimus dorsi tendon tore completely from the bone in his arm and retracted down his back. Dr. Romeo performed successful surgery to reattach the muscle on July 14, 2010. The injury is not common in Major League Baseball, which left White Sox fans uncertain of how long the recovery would take and whether or not Peavy could return to the level of play he was at before the injury.
Under the care of Dr. Anthony Romeo, Peavy was able to not only recover but to return to the mound on Wednesday, May 11, when the White Sox took on the LA Angels in Los Angeles. Peavy went on to pitch from the mound in Chicago at the May 18 game against the Cleveland Indians. White Sox fans, coaches and staff were happy to see him not only pitch the full nine innings, but only allow one batter past second base in a shut-out game.
