MOR sports medicine physician, pediatric sports medicine physician Dr. Jeffrey Mjaanes traveled to Argentina as team physician for the U.S. Under -17 Men's Soccer Team on June 20, 2010. In addition to their training schedule, the U.S. team played a series of friendly matches against Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile during their first week in Argentina.
As team physician for U.S. Soccer, Dr. Mjaanes assists with medical planning prior to the trip, including: team vaccinations, physicals, and packing adequate medical supplies for the duration of the trip. While in Argentina, Dr. Mjaanes is available to evaluate and treat any sports-related musculoskeletal issues or injuries as well as any general medical issues. He is also present at all matches and training sessions and is prepared to provide immediate expert care should any athlete be injured on the field.
Dr. Mjaanes started with U.S. Soccer in 2005-2006. This will complete his second year with the Under-17 Men's team. Last year he traveled with the team to Mexico for the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier round, where the team won all three matches. Dr. Mjaanes then traveled to Nigeria with the U-17 team in October 2009 for the FIFCA World Cup. While in Nigeria, the team advanced to the second round, but lost to Italy.
