Dr. Jeffrey Mjaanes

Dr. Jeffrey Mjaanes, sports medicine specialist at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, was recently featured in the Chicago Tribune Magazine discussing ways to start and maintain a healthy workout regimen. Dr. Mjaanes says, "The key is just a slow start."

Dr. Mjaanes offered these tips to starting an exercise routine:

  • Know that you're "awesome" for starting to exercise.
  • Begin gradually: walking, then speed walking, trotting, jogging, running.
  • Don't increase intensity or distance by more than 10 percent weekly.
