One of the nation's most advanced hospitals, known for its unique butterfly shaped tower, is scheduled to open in January 2012. The tower is a major component of the Rush Transformation — a 10-year, $1 billion campus redevelopment project. It is the largest capital project in Rush's 174-year history.
Like the Orthopedic Building, and all new construction that is part of the Rush Transformation project, the tower will be the first full-service, "green" hospital in Chicago. It was designed to conserve energy and water, reduce waste and use sustainable building materials. Rush is seeking Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification for the hospital.
The physicians at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush are excited about treating patients in the new facility. The innovative design will enable us to better serve our patients and facilitate the ideal patient experience. The new tower will connect to Rush's existing main hospital building, the Atrium, at 1650 W. Harrison Street. Select areas of the Atrium will be renovated following the opening of the new tower.
