(January 17, 2007, CHICAGO, IL) Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush is pleased to announce the addition of two new orthopaedic physicians to their orthopaedic patient care, education and research practice. Christopher J. DeWald, M.D., and K.W. Hammerberg, M.D., joined the group in January.
"The additions of Drs. DeWald and Hammerberg reinforce our position as the region's leading spine orthopaedic practice," says Dr. Charles Bush-Joseph, Managing Partner of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush. "The dedication of these physicians to Scoliosis and Spondylolisthesis research greatly complements our team of specialized spine physicians focused on the treatment of spinal deformities."
Dr. DeWald, a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, is a member of several professional organizations. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on advanced techniques in spinal surgery. Living and studying abroad have given Dr. DeWald a progressive perspective of this surgical specialty. During this period, Dr. DeWald's experience included training at Cook County Hospital, West Side Veterans Hospital, Shriner's Hospital for Children, Michael Reese Hospital, and the University of Illinois Hospital.
A cum laude graduate from Yale University, Dr. Hammerberg completed his medical degree at the University of Illinois, Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine in 1977. He served his residency and internship at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center and completed a Chicago Spine Fellowship at Rush, the University of Illinois, and Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children. For the past 22 years, Dr. Hammerberg has served as the Chief Spine Surgeon at Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children.
