December 13, 2010 — A group of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush physician spouses gathered together in an effort to give back to the community during this holiday season. The group, Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush Spouses and Significant Others (SSO), was organized by co-chairs Faye Jacobs and Kari Levine. The MOR spouses prepared a festive meal for the residents of Deborah's Place, a facility which breaks the cycle of homelessness for Chicago-area women. In addition to a hot meal and bountiful buffet of desserts, the spouses also supplied prizes won by the residents during a popular game of BINGO.
More than 35 residents participated in the event and were all able to choose a prize ranging from gift cards to everyday household items. The event concluded with a contribution made from Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush to assist Deborah's Place in offering comprehensive support services, stable housing and positive change for women in need. This monetary gift was given in honor of the generosity of the late Sofija Galante, loving MOR spouse of Dr. Jorge Galante.
"We were honored to recognize the efforts of all the staff and volunteers who work at Deborah's Place," said event co-chair Faye Jacobs. "At the same time it was emotionally difficult to present the gift in Sofija's honor. Her smile and genuine caring for others was a gift to us all and we miss her."
