Dr. Craig Della Valle, hip and knee specialist at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, was recently quoted in Health Day. Dr. Della Valle commented on a recent study that followed over 2,400 patients that had received a ceramic-on-ceramic hip replacement. The authors of the study found that 3.1 percent of patients developed a squeaking sound in the months following the surgery. Studies have suggested that the squeaking noise is more of a nuisance than a serious medical problem. Dr. Della Valle said, "I don't think there's any data to show that squeaking is harmful to patients. It doesn't seem to have any real consequences."
