ABC 7 Healthbeat Report:
Pitching Injuries

With baseball and softball seasons in full swing, trainers and physicians will be seeing an increase in "throwing" injuries. Pitchers are the most at risk for arm injury due to the repetitive, violent action of throwing a baseball or softball.

In an ABC 7 News Healthbeat Report by Sylvia Perez and Christine Tressel, Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush Surgeon Dr. Nikhil Verma discusses how overuse injuries are on the rise, even with female athletes using the underarm "windmill" softball pitching motion. Also in this report, MOR Surgeon Dr. Charles Bush-Joseph discusses the difference between normal soreness and serious injury, and the proper workload and maintenance regimens for pitchers of all ages.
