Biography

Dr. Thomas J. Lotus received his doctorate in 2003 as a graduate of National University of Health Sciences where he specialized in rehabilitation and non-surgical orthopedics.  He is part-time faculty for the Lincoln School of Post-Professional Education. Dr. Lotus currently teaches courses around the country and internationally covering classification, non-surgical orthopedics, rehabilitation, biomechanics and pain.

Dr. Lotus holds fellowship status as a board certified chiropractic orthopedist (DACO) and sits on the Board of Directors.  He is also a candidate for diplomate status within the American Chiropractic Rehabilitation Board .

Unique to his professional peers, Dr. Lotus is part of the small percent of chiropractors in the world who are fully credentialed in McKenzie Therapy: Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy and was a 2013 keynote speaker at their symposium for the North Americas.

Dr. Lotus completed a rotation at Motol Hospital, Czech Republic under Drs. Pavel Kolar and Karel Lewit. Dr. Lotus is extensively trained in their advanced technique of dynamic neuromuscular stabilization (DNS), a stabilization technique based on developmental kinesiology.

Publications include co-authoring Chapter 11 within the 2018 Orthopedic Knowledge Update (OKU) titled ‘Therapeutic Exercise’.  In addition, Dr. Lotus co-authored the chapter 'The McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) for the Classification and Rehabilitation of Spinal Problems’ within the 3rd edition of Rehabilitation of the Spine by Craig Liebenson, DC.

Dr. Lotus held an active private practice for over 15 years in downtown Chicago.  His patient base has always been highly varied with a strong emphasis on sports injuries, pre- and post-surgical care, acute and chronic low back or other joint injury, as well as musculoskeletal complications from chronic disease or long-standing injury.  As a past competitive athlete, he well understands the struggles of the injured athlete and strives to return them to sport as soon as possible. He is well known for his compassion within the chronic pain community as well as having the soft skills of meeting his patients where they are at.  He serves as an excellent liaison between the non-surgical cases and those that may require surgical care and has always coordinated care with physiatrists, surgeons and physical therapists to achieve this. His patient base includes the range of athletes, pre- and post surgical conditions and a multitude of chronic pain conditions.
