Dr. Joshua Blomgren on Heatstroke

Last May, University of Maryland offensive lineman Jordan McNair collapsed and later died from a heatstroke at a football preseason workout. Dr. Joshua Blomgren, sports medicine physician at Midwest Orthopaedic at Rush, commented in an AccuWeather.com story. “Once identified, aggressive measures to decrease the athlete's temperature is imperative to prevent significant complications, and based on research/data, the standard of care should be cold water immersion,” Blomgren said.
