Dr. Mark Cohen Named Among Top 12 Leading North American Hand Physicians

Dr. Mark Cohen, a hand, wrist and elbow surgeon with Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush (MOR) and a professor at Rush University Medical Center, has been named one of the Top 12 Leading North American Hand Surgeons, according to a list recently published by Orthopedics This Week. He is the only physician from Chicago on the list. 

According to Orthopedics This Week, Dr. Cohen and his peers made this list because they “have impressed their professional colleagues with their dedication and expertise.”

For the last 24 years, Dr. Cohen has served as the Director of the Orthopedic Hand and Elbow Section at Rush University and he is currently the Director of Orthopedic Education in the department. He has won several research, teaching and achievement awards and is a member of 16 national and international medical societies and associations. 

Dr. Cohen was selected one of Chicago's "Top Doctors" in Hand and Orthopedic Surgery by Chicago Magazine in 2016. He was been honored in this fashion every year the "Top Doctors" edition has been published since 1997. U.S. News & World Report rates him in the top 1% of physicians in his specialty in the nation. 

His clinical and research interests focus on fractures and reconstruction of the hand, wrist and elbow with a special emphasis on minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Cohen has special training and extensive expertise in treating complex elbow conditions in throwing athletes, commonly performing “Tommy John” surgery and treating many other sports related injuries.  He is a team physician and consultant for the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bulls.

Dr. Cohen is the author of more than 125 medical articles, 56 book chapters and he has written a textbook on Hand and Wrist injuries. In addition, he is an editor of Green's Operative Hand Surgery, the most widely read and recognized hand and elbow surgery textbook in the world. He has participated in over 300 continuing education courses where he has taught other doctors, serving as Course Chairman 45 times.
