In this Peoria Journal-Star story, the reporter featured a young baseball pitcher and patient of Dr. Charles Bush-Joseph. Peoria area resident Trent Johnson underwent Tommy John surgery at a young age, most likely due to over-pitching and overuse. Although the surgery was successful, unfortunately, the timing cost him a college scholarship. In this story, Dr. Bush-Joseph talks about over-pitching, including in the major league, a subject he knows well as the head team physician for the Chicago White Sox. Experts hope that the recent IHSA ruling to limit pitch count will help protect young throwers in the future.
