Dr. Frank Phillips receives a Spine Journal 2019 Award at NASS

At the 2019 North American Spine Society meeting in Chicago last week, Dr. Frank Phillips received a Spine Journal 2019 Award for the OUTSTANDING PAPER IN VALUE IN SPINE CARE. The paper evaluated the topic “Are current DRG-based bundled payment models for lumbar fusions risk-adjusting adequately?” and included an analysis of Medicare beneficiaries. Dr. Phillips co-authors included Azeem Tariq Malik, MBBS; Elizabeth Yu, MD; and Safdar N. Khan, MD.


Dr. Phillips is a leader in the field and is a founder, board member and past president of the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. Dr. Phillips has participated in the development of and pioneered a number of minimally invasive spinal techniques that are now widely used. He regularly teaches and lectures to spine surgeons nationally and internationally on minimally invasive spinal surgery.
