The Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush practice is comprised of highly trained, credentialed physicians who are pioneers in the field of adult joint reconstruction. The following physicians are part of the faculty of the Adult Reconstructive Hip and Knee Fellowship Program.
An extremely busy clinician and master technician, Dr. Berger provides the fellowship with a wealth of clinical material. His practice emphasizes less invasive surgical techniques and he is a pioneer in the development of perioperative pathways to optimize patient outcomes. His research interests include clinical outcomes of both less invasive primary and complex revision procedures. Dr. Berger performs a substantial volume of partial knee arthroplasties (including unicompartmental and patellofemoral arthroplasty) and unique surgical exposures.
Dr. Della Valle has a busy clinical referral practice that exposes fellows to complex primary and revision total joint arthroplasty including the management of the infected total joint arthroplasty. The fellows are also exposed to metal on metal hip resurfacing in his practice as well as a substantial number of unicompartmental knee arthroplasties. He also leads the clinical research endeavors of the section and interacts intimately with the fellows in the planning, execution and presentation of their research projects. He is an integral part of our weekly joint conference where challenging clinical cases are presented.
Present chairman of our department and leader of our basic science lab, Dr. Jacobs is former president of the ORS and is extremely active in the AAOS. Dr. Jacob's particular interests include the systemic effects of total joint arthroplasty materials and bearing surface technologies. He is also clinically active in the clinics where patients from around the country are referred with complex clinical problems and interacts with the fellows in the operating room as well.
The newest member of our clinical faculty, Dr. Levine has already developed a challenging revision referral practice and another source of complex cases which the fellows can participate in, although the fellows do not at this point have a formal rotation with Dr. Levine. He also has a strong interest in clinical research and provides another mentor for clinical research projects.
Dr. Denis Nam is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee reconstruction, replacement, revision, partial knee replacement, and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Nam has a special interest in clinical outcomes research following hip and knee arthroplasty with prior investigations focusing on thromboembolism prophylaxis following joint replacement and the implementation of new technologies and surgical techniques in total knee arthroplasty.
A world-renowned expert in revision arthroplasty of the hip, Dr. Paprosky provides the fellowship with a wealth of knowledge, experience and clinical volume in regards to managing complex revision procedures. His patients provide a wealth of material for clinical study and allow the fellow to understand in-depth the nuances of patient evaluation, preoperative planning and technical execution of the most complex patient problems. He is active in the Hip Society, being its immediate past president, and the AAOS. He leads the fellowship experience at our second site, Central DuPage Hospital and also operates at Rush University Medical Center weekly, and is an integral part of our weekly joint conference where challenging clinical cases are presented.
Dr. Rosenberg is the fellowship director. He is another world-renowned expert on hip and knee reconstruction being a member of both the hip and knee society and active in the AAOS. He has a busy referral practice and assists the fellows in exploring decision making both pre and postoperatively and is an outstanding clinician and role model. Our internal review process ranks him as among the best teachers in our fellowship and residency program. He is an integral part of our weekly joint conference where challenging clinical cases are presented.
Dr. Sporer has a busy clinical practice and performs a high percentage of complex revision procedures including the management of periprosthetic infection and periprosthetic fractures. Working predominantly at Central DuPage Hospital with Dr. Paprosky, the combination of Dr. Sporer and Dr. Paprosky provides an unparalleled revision experience. He is also active in the clinical research pursuits of the section and serves as a resource for the fellows to organize research projects using clinical material from Central DuPage Hospital.
