Dr. Steven Gitelis, orthopedic oncologist at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, was not only named one of Chicago Magazine’s “Top Cancer Docs,” but he was also featured in a story about the hybrid plasma scalpel. The scalpel is a revolutionary new device using a beam of plasma ions to cut and cauterize cancer tissue. Dr. Gitelis is one of the nation’s only surgeons using it for sarcoma patients. The device reduces blood loss during surgery and also targets possible malignant cells left behind, which helps prevent the cancer from reoccurring.
