USA Today recently featured Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush joint replacement surgeon Dr. Scott Sporer in an article entitled ‘Joint Adventures.’ The story discussed the estimated 700,000 patients who undergo knee replacement each year and the 300,000 who undergo hip replacement. Among these are active women in their 50’s who are able to return to their favorite sports, including one of Dr. Sporer’s patients, retired P.E. teacher Gail Pistello of Downers Grove, Illinois, who loves to bike and ski.
Replacing worn-down joints with devices made of metal and hard plastic often serves as “a life-changing procedure for the good,” explains Dr. Sporer.
