Dr. Austin Roberts, originally from Rice Lake, Wisconsin, is an orthopaedic surgery resident with research interests in cartilage restoration and orthobiologics, joint preservation of the hip and knee, shoulder arthroscopy and arthroplasty, and surgical treatment of sports injuries of the upper and lower extremities. He is also interested in patient-reported outcomes and healthcare disparities, with a growing focus on applying artificial intelligence to imaging, outcomes prediction, and clinical decision-making in orthopaedic sports medicine.
Before medicine, he was a starter and team captain for the Fighting Illini football team under head coach Lovie Smith, and he remains a proud supporter of Illini football. Outside the hospital, he treasures time with his wife and their son, exploring Chicago together and staying active through regular workouts. He also appreciates the lighter side of life, like the semester he once dedicated to trying every frozen pizza available in Champaign.
