In 2007, Dr. Simon Lee partnered with national not-for-profit organization "Soles4Souls" to create a first-of-its-kind event in Chicago. He and a handful of foot and ankle physician assistants, residents and medical students visited a Chicago homeless shelter and provided foot exams, treatment, new shoes and socks. It was a lean staff so they stayed very late to attend to an estimated 200 clients of the Franciscan House of Mary &Joseph on Chicago's west side, not far from Rush University Medical Center.

Now, nine years later, this annual event has become even more meaningful to so many more people. Approximately 30 volunteers helped care for more than 200 shelter clients' feet and size them for new shoes and socks. In addition, several foot and ankle patients who read or learned about the annual Soles4Souls event made donations to the program. This allowed foot and ankle physicians Dr. Simon LeeDr. Johnny Lin and Dr. Kamran Hamid to purchase more warm shoes and boots, especially in the popular larger sizes.
