Tips on Avoiding Snow-Related Sport Injuries by Dr. Mark Cohen

Dr. Mark Cohen, Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush hand, wrist and elbow orthopedic surgeon, was recently featured in a Chicago Tribune story about avoiding winter sport injuries. Dr. Cohen explained that the most common injuries from skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing and ice skating falls are to the wrist, hand and elbow. He encourages outdoor sports enthusiasts to know how to fall properly. He also encourages helmet use because while the joint, wrists, hands and arms, as well as the ankles and knees, are the most common injuries in snow-related activities, head injuries and concussions are the most important.
